General Muhammadu Buhari The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has today, Wednesday, December 17, 2014, chosen Professor Yemi Osinbajo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as his running mate as vice president in the 2015 presidential election scheduled for February 14, 2015. The Lagos based Osinbajo is a pastor at Olive Tree House of Prayer for All Nations in Banana Island, which is a Redeemed Christian Church of God Parish. Osinbajo is also the Ethics Adviser to the Advisory Board of the African Development Bank and the director of Citibank (non-executive). Furthermore, the appointed running mate and father of three has served in various capacities in the United Nations and has written, edited and co-authored several books and publications. The graduate of Law from the University of Lagos would automatically become the vice president of Nigeria if Buhari eventually wins the presidential race come 2015.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday failed in its bid to unseat governors that decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from their party. Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court in Abuja struck out the suit filed by the PDP in which it sought to sack the four governors who defected from the party. The court, in a ruling that lasted about two hours, held that the service of the suit’s originating processes were invalid. He held that they were wrongly issued and served on the defendants. The PDP had last December sued the governors, including former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over their defection to the APC. The party begged the court to declare the defecting governors’ seats vacant and also asked the court to order INEC to conduct elections for their replacement. The former Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike, has won the PDP governorship primaries in a contest boycotted by 16 aggrieved gubernatorial contestants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The election held at the Community Girls Secondary School, Mile 3, Port Harcourt had Wike as favourite. In his acceptance speech, Wike said he dedicated the victory to Almighty God and the delegates who reposed confidence in him to fly the party flag in the state. The venue of the primaries well secured by the Rivers Police Command and the anti-bomb squad. Wike, Ben Dimkpa, Emmanuel Georgwill and Senator Lee Maeba were the only aspirants present at the venue. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Wow!!! Reports reaching us has it that the Chairman of House of Representative Committee on Marine Transport, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has emerged the Enugu State PDP governorship candidate. Gburugburu, as he is always called, defeated other aspirants such as Senator Ayogu Eze, Prof. Onyeke A. Onyeke and Speaker, Enugu House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo. Hon. Ugwuanyi got 933 votes out of the total 963 votes cast beating his main challenger in the race, Speaker Eugene Odo who had 26 votes.  However, Senator Eze and Prof. Onyeke did not participate in the primary held at the stadium. We gathered that the duo of Chief Anayo Onwuegbu and Hon. Chinedu Onu, at the weekend, stepped down for Hon. France has admitted ownership of the cargo plane that was impounded by military authorities at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, last Saturday. It said that the flight was covered by a diplomatic clearance given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, noting that the Autonov 124 Russian commercial plane was forced to land at the Kano airport because of dense air traffic at Ndjamena airport,Chad. A statement from the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, on Sunday, stated that the Antonov plane had to divert to an alternate international airport and the  closest airport facility being Kano, the Russian crew decided to fly there, to refuel, and to take off again to reach Njamena Airport. He denied that the plane was carrying arms and ammunition, stressing that it was conveying two light Gazelle helicopters, spare parts and maintenance items belonging to the French Army.
